The Cardassian system was the home star system of the Cardassians and the political center of the Cardassian Union. (DS9: "Explorers") In 2375, the Dominion began their withdrawal to the Cardassian system during the waning days of the Dominion War. (DS9: "The Dogs of War")

Background

According to the Star Trek: Star Charts, on pages 36 and 42-43, Cardassia was located in the Alpha Quadrant. This system had an orange dwarf primary with a rating of K0V and an absolute magnitude of -1.1. There were eight planets in the system, four of which were inhabited, and two asteroid belts. The system was visited by a Bajoran solar-sail vessel in 1571. Distance between Bajor and Cardassia was 5.25 light years.

  • the star is a bright red dwarf (M2 V type)
  • the first two planets are class F
  • Cardassia Prime is the third planet in the system
