A car salesman was an occupation of possible disrepute, selling automobiles, during the 20th century on Earth.

In 1947, Lieutenant General Rex Denning of the US Army Air Corps compared the behavior of Quark to that of his brother-in-law, a car salesman. His tone was disparaging. (DS9: "Little Green Men")
