− | It appears that the "Captain Proton" novelization may have been based on the early 1940s science fiction series ''Captain Video and His Video Rangers'', with some cosmetic changes. The series shared the same campy themes and post World War II/Cold War clichés. A robot also existed in that series by the name of Tobor. |

Background information
The jetpack of the costume was sold off on the It's A Wrap! sale and auction on eBay. [1]
The costume worn by Captain Proton bears striking similarity to that of Commando Cody, especially the control panel on the front. The commando cody reference is also shown in the controls that control Captain Proton's ship, which also resemble the ship controls of Commando Cody
Apocrypha
At least one complete Captain Proton story has been written in the real world, by Dean Wesley Smith, Captain Proton: Defender of the Earth. He presumed that, in the Star Trek universe, the holonovel Captain Proton was adapted from a supposed 1930s pulp magazine, and set out to write and publish that story.
