The Canary Islands was a Spanish archipelago located just off the coast of Africa. The canary was native to the islands.

In 1968, a tannoy at McKinley Rocket Base reported the Canary Islands had confirmed they were "go" for the launch of a nuclear rocket. (TOS: "Assignment: Earth")
