Calendenium is a naturally-occurring chemical substance, apparently an element. In 2367, a quantity of calendenium was released by an alien ship which combined with hydrogen released by the USS Enterprise-D, producing a chemical reaction and resultant massive explosion that freed both vessels from the Tyken's rift in which both vessels had been trapped.
