| The view from the Café des Artistes |
The Café des Artistes was a small restaurant in Paris on Earth, which offers an excellent view on the 500-year-old Eiffel Tower. It was located near the office of the President of the United Federation of Planets.
In 2342, Jean-Luc Picard had a rendezvous with Jenice at the Café des Artistes. However, Picard posted Jenice who later married Paul Manheim. In order to prepare himself for meeting Jenice again, Picard visited a holographic simulation of this café in 2364. (TNG: "We'll Always Have Paris")
The simulation was also available aboard the USS Enterprise-E in 2373. (Star Trek: First Contact)
Background
The menu used as a prop in the Café des Artistes is another example of the art department having fun. It was reproduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Continuing Mission on page 67. The menu for that day (in appallingly-spelled French) was:
- Dilithium Croissants (Croissants D'lithium) - with a cheese sauce and tomato fraiche
- Tribbles in a Blanket - three small young tribbles sauteed with butter and served in a wrapped bread
- Klingon Targ with Ice Cream - one small targ with vanilla ice cream, served with the fish of the day. Comes with fried Bynar and parsley.
- Horses in a Brown Sauce - one large piece of horse, 38 years old, made with a wonderful brown sauce, with a small stone
- Jean Cougar Mellencamp - Flank of cougar, captured by ten aquanauts, with coffee fraiche. Served with purple flowers or a yellow boat.
- Wonderful Desserts - Flaming antimatter, cakes, and also turtle surprise
- "The management reserves the right to remove anyone who does not understand this menu. If you need to ask the price, you cannot afford to eat in this restaurant. No shirt, no service. 50 million French can't be wrong. (In English): Gauling, isn't it?"
