A buffer was a component of Bynar technology. The device, worn at waist level, was used for the storage and retrieval of information. The buffers were programmed for binary code. (TNG: "11001001")
The script for "11001001" describes the Bynar buffers as "belt-carried oblong cases roughly 4" x 6" x 2" deep, with CHASER LIGHTS." [1]
