He decided that he wanted to be in the comic industry at the age of 13 and finally make his break in his late 20s at Caliber Comics where he worked on noir fiction crime comics. While there, he created the character of Jinx, a bounty hunter.
In 1996, he moved to Image Comics where he met Todd McFarlane, who had him write Sam and Twitch. Set in the Spawn universe, Bendis wrote the series as a crime comic. Within a couple of years he co-created Powers with Michael Avon Oeming and the two won a number of major awards for the title.
Around the turn of the millennium, Bendis began writing Ultimate Spider-Man for Marvel Comics and wrote over 100 issues of the title, one he continues to write. He also wrote issues of several of the other Ultimate titles. In 2001 Bendis began writing Daredevil and worked on 55 issues through to 2006. He also helped launch Alias under Marvel's MAX imprint.
Bendis was a main creative force behind House of M and Avengers Disassembled and worked with the creative committee for Marvel Entertainment on films such as Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers. He also is a producer and writer for the Disney XD Ultimate Spiderman television series.
