Boridium was a substance used in Romulan and Federation technology.

According to the Starfleet Medical Reference Manual, (p.17) the element Boridium, symbol Bo, atomic weight 317, atomic number 121, was originally discovered by the ancients on Rigel IV.

History[]

Boridium power cells were used in the construction of Romulan mines which Enterprise NX-01 encountered in 2152. In 2154, the Romulans utilized a similar technology in the power matrices of their drone ships, although they were smaller and much more sophisticated. (ENT: "Minefield", "Babel One")

The Hill People of the Argus River region on Rigel IV used boridium for the blades of a kind of knife they produced; one such weapon was involved in a series of murders on Argelius II in 2267. (TOS: "Wolf in the Fold")

The Romulan prison camp on Carraya IV tracked prisoners' locations by using the energy signatures of boridium pellets implanted beneath the skin. (TNG: "Birthright, Part II")

In 2369, boridium was used in exocomps as a power network. (TNG: "The Quality of Life")

In the alternate reality-set novel The Assassination Game, Leonard McCoy puts a single molecule of boridium into a bowl of minestrone soup in order to test an experimental analyzer he is working on.
