A blockade is a fleet maneuver intended to disrupt enemy movements, specifically supplies. Blockade runners are designed to evade such actions.

One of Kyril Finn's demands was a Federation blockade around Rutia IV. (TNG: "The High Ground")

During the Klingon Civil War, Captain Picard implemented a blockade of the Klingon-Romulan border to prevent Romulan supplies from reinforcing the Duras-led faction. A tachyon detection grid was used to overcome the Romulan starships' cloaking devices. (TNG: "Redemption II")

The following ships comprised Picard's blockade:

In 2375, Colonel Kira Nerys established a blockade around Derna to stop the Romulan Star Empire from bringing its plasma torpedo launchers on the Bajoran moon online. (DS9: "Image in the Sand", "Shadows and Symbols")

Annari scanning pulse — Annari ships blockading the Kraylor homeworld

Since 2374, the Annari have blockaded the homeworld of the Kraylor, unable to attack the planet itself due to a shield. In 2377, Harry Kim and Seven of Nine helped Kraylor scientists run the blockade with a newly-developed cloaking device. The blockading Annari ships were equipped with scanning pulses capable of revealing a cloaked ship. (VOY: "Nightingale")
