Biotechnology is technology that involves biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives, engineered for agriculture, food science, medicine, or another specific use.

The Cardassians used biotechnology and implanted cranial implants into the skull of former operatives of the Obsidian Order. In 2370 Elim Garak experienced the results of this procedure and charged Quark to provide him with information and schematics of this device. Quark contacted Glinn Boheeka and gave him the access code followed by the discovery of his try to get these classified information and the ruin of his career. (DS9: "The Wire")
