Biomechanics, a branch of cybernetics, was the science of studying motion in living beings. Having analyzed the results of their studies, scientists then instructed engineers in the building of machines which were capable of duplicating these movements. Examples of machines which benefited from this science were androids and cyborgs.

By early 2364, Lieutenant Commander Data had been the subject of several biomechanical texts. (TNG: "The Naked Now")
