Beta Lyrae system was a planetary system. The primary, Beta Lyrae, was known as one of the rare beautiful spectacles of the galaxy and almost every starship that passed by stop to see it. This system had at least two planets. It is located 142° NE of the galactic plane. Beta Lyrae was located between Kzin and the Federation Starbase 25. (TAS: "The Slaver Weapon") The location of the Beta Lyrae system in the Milky Way Galaxy was depicted on a Federation star chart in 2293. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

In 2269, Kzinti privateers lured the shuttlecraft Copernicus to the system in order to steal the Slaver stasis box the shuttle was carrying. (TAS: "The Slaver Weapon")

The Explored Galaxy: This chart was also seen in several Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes set in the 24th century, from the year 2364 to 2370. These were: TNG: "Conspiracy", "The Measure Of A Man", "The Emissary", "The Mind's Eye", "The Game" and DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets", "Cardassians".
Beta Lyrae (Sheliak) was located in the Alpha Quadrant. This was a binary star system. Beta Lyrae A was a B class star with a magnitude of -5, which was ten thousand times brighter than Sol. Beta Lyrae B was a B class star. (Star Trek: Star Charts, United Federation of Planets II)
