Beta Lyrae system was a star system in the Alpha Quadrant of the Milky Way Galaxy. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country production art) The system was located 142° NE of the galactic plane between Kzin and the Federation Starbase 25. The primary, Beta Lyrae, was known as one of the rare beautiful spectacles of the galaxy and almost every starship that passed by stop to see it. This system had at least two planets.
In 2269, the shuttlecraft Copernicus of the USS Enterprise was transporting a Slaver stasis box to Starbase 25 and passed by Beta Lyrae. Kzinti privateers lured the shuttle to a small ice-bound planet located in the star system, using another stasis box as bait. (TAS: "The Slaver Weapon")
In "The Explored Galaxy" star chart, Beta Lyrae was located between the Tholian Assembly and Romulus. According to DS9: "Call to Arms", both were located in the Alpha Quadrant.
According to Star Trek: Star Charts (United Federation of Planets II), Beta Lyrae (Sheliak) was a binary star system in the Alpha Quadrant. Beta Lyrae A was a B class star with a magnitude of -5, which was ten thousand times brighter than Sol. Beta Lyrae B was a B class star.
