Beta Lyrae was a star in the Alpha Quadrant of the Milky Way Galaxy. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, production art) Beta Lyrae was the primary of the Beta Lyrae system, located 142° NE of the galactic plane. Beta Lyrae was known as one of the rare beautiful spectacles of the Milky Way Galaxy and almost every starship that passed by stop to see it. Beta Lyrae was located between Kzin and Starbase 25. In "The Explored Galaxy" star chart, Beta Lyrae was located between the Tholian Assembly and Romulus. According to DS9: "Call to Arms", both were located in the Alpha Quadrant.
According to Star Trek: Star Charts (United Federation of Planets II), Beta Lyrae (Sheliak) was a binary star system in the Alpha Quadrant. Beta Lyrae A was a B class star with a magnitude of -5, which was ten thousand times brighter than Sol. Beta Lyrae B was a B class star.
