Beta Canopus was a planet that held a supply of strobolin. Strobolin was a naturally occurring pharmaceutical drug, found on only a few planets in the Milky Way Galaxy. It was used to treat choriocytosis in Vulcans and other races with blood not based on iron.

The starship USS Potemkin visited Beta Canopus in 2270 to obtain strobolin that was to be shipped to the USS Enterprise by way of the freighter Huron. (TAS: "The Pirates of Orion")
