Berkeley was a city on Earth, in the state of California, due east from San Francisco and north-east of Oakland. Home to the main campus of the University of California, Berkeley was headquarters to the Free Speech Movement of Earth's 1960s.
During a time-travel mission to 1986, James T. Kirk informed (not entirely truthfully) Dr. Gillian Taylor that Spock's aberrant behavior was result of his involvement with the Free Speech movement and his overindulgence in "LDS" [sic]. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
The location of Berkeley was identified on a MUNI map. Downtown Berkeley, represented by a marker, was positioned north of California State Route 13 (red line).
