The Berengarius system was an important Federation planetary system around the star Berengaria in the Alpha Quadrant. In the 24th century, it held a similar importance and significance as other core Federation planets, such as Vulcan, Andor, and perhaps even Earth. (DS9: "In the Cards")
The location of Berengaria was depicted on a Federation star chart. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country production art)
The Berengarius system contained a Class M world, Berengaria VII, which was first explored by a Vulcan survey team in the early 2100s.
In December of 2154, Enterprise NX-01 was assigned to the Berengaria system to scout for suitable planets on which the first of a series of proposed starbases could be built. Berengaria VII was a potential candidate. (ENT: "Bound")
