Ward started his career as production assistant on the comedy Almost Salinas (2001, starring Virginia Madsen and Ray Wise, and with location scout Scott Trimble), the drama Hawaiian Gardens (2001, with Tzi Ma), the television movie Cell Dogs (2005), and the television series Monk. As a member of the art department, Ward served as set dresser and art department assistant on Jon Turtletaub's action blockbuster National Treasure (2004) and the reality television shows Celebrity Fit Club, Untold Stories of the ER, My Fair Brady, and Pros vs. Joes.

Since 2006, he worked regulary in the camera and electrical department, mostly as RF technician, also in the second unit. His credits include the comedy The Oh in Ohio (2006, with Tim Russ), the action film Gridiron Gang (2006, starring Dwayne Johnson), the reality show On the Lot (2007), the comedy Blades of Glory (2007), Sam Raimi's superhero sequel Spider-Man 3 (2007, with Kirsten Dunst and James Cromwell), the thriller Vacancy (2007), Len Wiseman's action sequel Live Free or Die Hard (2007), the action sequel The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), Jon Favreau's comic adaptation Iron Man (2008, with Faran Tahir and Bill Smitrovich), the action comedy Get Smart (2008), the fantasy film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (2008), the action thriller Wanted (2008), the action film Fast & Furious (2009), and Michael Bay's science fiction sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009, written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman).
