Jack London
Jack London, a bellboy at the Hotel Brian in 1893

A bellboy was someone employed as an errand boy and luggage carrier around many hotels. They existed mainly in the 19th and 20th centuries.

In 1893, after inadvertently traveling back in time, Lieutenant Commander Data asked a bellboy at the Hotel Brian for temporary lodging. The bellboy replied that it cost "six bits a day or four dollars a week." When Data replied that he had no money, the bellboy said he could not help him. Data later returned after winning a poker game and, with his winnings, rented a room and asked the bellboy to buy some items for him, saying he could "retain the surplus" for himself. (TNG: "Time's Arrow", "Time's Arrow, Part II")

In 2365, after discovering what appeared to be a real-life recreation of the Hotel Royale, Commander Will Riker, Lieutenant Commander Data and Lieutenant Worf were asked by the hotel bellboy if they were checking in, and were then told to head to the front desk. (TNG: "The Royale")
