For the ships named Beagle, please see HMS Beagle and the SS Beagle.
The Beagle is a breed of domesticated dog, most likely originating from England, on Earth.
During the 22nd century, Captain Jonathan Archer owned a Beagle named Porthos, which he took with him during his 10-year mission on the Enterprise. (ENT: "Broken Bow")
In the alternate reality, Montgomery Scott attempted to prove his theories about interplanetary transportation by beaming Admiral Archer's prize beagle. The dog was never seen again. (Star Trek)
...except in the novelization of the film, when the dog rematerializes on the Enterprise, slightly confused but (apparently) quite unharmed.
