The Battle of Avenal was a military engagement that took place in the year 2375 during the final days of the Dominion War. It was part of a series of futile attacks by the Klingon Empire against the Dominion. These attacks were ordered by Chancellor Gowron in order to humiliate General Martok, whom the Chancellor had come to see as a political threat. During the battle, Martok was hopelessly outnumbered six-to-one and was predictably defeated. The Klingons lost seven ships, while five others were badly damaged. General Martok himself was severely injured in the attack. (DS9: "Tacking Into the Wind")
