Bathkin was a doctor on Andros III who developed the "answer" to solving the puzzle of death: keep the cells of the body energized, keeping them in the game by teaching them new mitochondrial tricks. Unfortunately, Dr. Bathkin died in a shuttlecraft accident in 2359 before he could ever finish his work.

Eventually, his work was furthered by Dr. Elias Giger, who built his cellular regeneration and entertainment chamber aboard Deep Space 9 in 2373. (DS9: "In the Cards")
