The bassoon was a musical instrument from the planet Earth. Bassoons were typically made of wood or plastic and had a double-reed.

An alien crewmember of the USS Enterprise-D played the bassoon during a concert in Ten Forward in the year 2367. Data, Jenna D'Sora and Keiko O'Brien also participated in that concert. (TNG: "In Theory")
