LCARS diagram of the Bajoran system

The Bajoran system was an inhabited planetary system. This system contained fourteen planets, with Bajor being the largest, and a plasma field. This plasma field, named the Denorios Belt, was a natural border between the inner and outer systems. This belt was located between the orbits of Bajor IX and Bajor X. (DS9: "The Nagus")

During the 24th century, it was a key system for the United Federation of Planets and the Dominion during the Dominion War, as it contains the Bajoran wormhole, the only stable connection to the Gamma Quadrant. The system was briefly occupied by the Dominion in 2373-2374, but was later retaken by the Federation as a result of Operation Return. (DS9: "Emissary", "Favor the Bold", "Sacrifice of Angels")

Background

The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual states that the Bajor system is 52 light years from Earth. However, this does not appear to support what was seen on screen.

Furthermore, according to the Deep Space Nine Technical Manual the proper name of the Bajoran sun was "Bajor-B'hava'el." This information was repeated in several other sources, including the post-"What You Leave Behind" relaunch novels. Other sources, like the Star Trek: Star Charts, on page 34, called the sun "B'hava'el".

Finally, according to StarTrek.com, Bajor VIII is also known as "Andros". Template:St

Star Trek: Star Charts, on page 34, mistakenly stated that Bajor was the seventh planet of this system.
