Bajoran Militia, war room

The war room of the Bajoran Militia in 2370.

The Bajoran Militia is the military arm of the Bajoran Provisional Government made up of many former resistance fighters from the Occupation of Bajor.

The structure is comparable to that of an Earth army, with similar ranks. Officers of the Militia are usually graduates of the Bajoran Military Academy, although many commissions were awarded on the basis of demonstrated skills and merit of the soldiers who were part of the resistance against the occupation.

The militia jointly operates Deep Space Nine with Starfleet. From 2369 to 2375 the station was commanded by a Starfleet commander and the executive officer was a Militia member. When the station's commander, Captain Sisko, disappeared in late 2375, his executive, Colonel Kira, took command.

It is likely that when Bajor joins the Federation, the militia will cease to exist as Bajor's defense will be handled by Starfleet.

In the non-canon novels released by Pocket Books and associated releases from WildStorm Comics, the station's new Starfleet liaison was the new XO after the events of DS9:"What You Leave Behind." First, Starfleet commander Tiris Jast, a Bolian woman, filled the position, before dying and passing the assignment onto Commander Elias Vaughn. None of this has been confirmed in any canon source however.
