In 2356, an unknown substance found nineteen years prior in the Denorios belt was brought to the Bajoran Institute of Science to be studied by Dr. Mora Pol. Dr. Mora discovered this substance to be a sentient lifeform, a Changeling that became known as Odo. (DS9: "The Alternate")
