Bagpipes were an Earth musical instrument, normally associated with Scotland, that have been used to play traditional military and religious music.

Montgomery Scott, a native of Scotland, was proficient in playing this instrument, having a set in his quarters during 2268. (TOS: "By Any Other Name") He played Amazing Grace in honor of his friend and commanding officer, Captain Spock, at his memorial service in 2285 aboard the USS Enterprise. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)
