In starship classification, an auxiliary space vehicle, also known as a support craft, landing craft, or launch vehicle was any vehicle capable of spaceflight that was attached to a mother ship that assisted in missions and environments unsuitable for starships. The term would also be applied to any small vessel that worked independently or was incapable of space travel. The most popular form of auxiliary craft attached to starships and starbases were shuttlecraft.

When Katherine Pulaski asked if Data was qualified to pilot a shuttlecraft, he stated that he "had training in auxiliary space vessels at Starfleet Academy." (TNG: "Unnatural Selection")
