Auto-stabilizers were components used aboard NX-class starships, for the purpose of stabilizing the warp field. The ship's computer automatically ran diagnostics on the auto-stabilizers.
In 2152, the crew of the Enterprise NX-01 noticed that the ship's warp field was out of alignment. At first they thought it was a malfunction in the ship's auto-stabilizers, but upon realizing that they were functioning properly, they discovered that the problem was being caused by a number of cloaked Suliban cell ships which were surrounding Enterprise.
