Atlas Editions

The Star Trek Universe card set was original started by Collier Newfield publications in 1996. Atlas Editions purchased Newfield in 1998 and has continued distributing the collector’s cards.

According to Mr. Williams and Mr. Trunkfield of Atlas Editions UK, Atlas Editions US is no longer in business. Unfortunately, the US division officially closed it's doors on June 30th, 2001. According to Atlas Editions UK, there is no remaining inventory of these cards. Therefore, there is no current venue (other than auction sites, of which I have seen extremely limited selection) to obtain replacements or remaining cards in an incomplete collection. The license to produce these cards has returned to Paramount and they have decided not to resume production of the cards.

The entire collection is a total of 950 cards. This is composed of 94 decks (10 cards per deck), 5 bonus cards, and 5 cards that are no longer available (discussed later).

There are a total of 32 shipments. The first shipment includes 10 cards with a free binder, dividers, trivia book, and sixteen coasters. The remaining 31 shipments contain 30 cards (3 decks) except for one shipment that will have the 5 additional bonus cards. By the time you complete the collection, you will have received 3 additional binders with dividers.

The individual shipments can be identified by a serial number located on the back of each card. This serial number looks similar to the following:

6758-56-08

The 56 in the middle indicates this is the 56th deck of cards. The 08 on the end indicates this is card number eight of ten in the 56th deck. I am not sure, but I believe the 6758 is just a reference number for Atlas Editions. However, the number remains the same for all the cards in a particular deck…except for one, the infamous second deck of cards. Finally, there is a bonus set of 5 cards that begins with 5408-0B-0X.

Finally we get to the 5 cards that are no longer available. Atlas Editions currently ships the following cards in it’s second deck:

Note the inconsistency in the Atlas Edition’s reference number. Some cards begin with 5205, yet others begin with 5199. This is because Atlas changed 5 of the cards in this original shipment…and these cards are no longer available. The following is a list of the five missing cards.
