An assault team is a group of soldiers or security staff that is sent along on an away mission in case of hostillity, or beamed aboard a disabled vessel or outpost to steal technology. Assault teams are typically more heavily armed with weapons and specialized equipment for combat situations.
During the 22nd century, Earth Starfleet used groups of MACO soldiers for assault teams, most notably aboard the Enterprise (NX-01). An assault team was used to steal data discs containing ship logs that proved the Enterprise innocent of destroying the Paraagan II colony. (ENT: "Shockwave, Part I")
