Artemis was the Greek goddess of hunting and the twin sister to Apollo by Zeus and the mortal Leto. Artemis was among the band of alien explorers who briefly lived on Earth in ancient times, allowing themselves to be worshiped as gods. However, after leaving Earth for Pollux IV she, along with all of the other gods except for Apollo, eventually transcended physical existence leaving her brother behind by himself to mourn their going. Apollo wanted Carolyn Palamas' arms to be bare like hers, so with a wave of his hand he transformed her uniform into a revealing peplos. (TOS: "Who Mourns for Adonais?")
