The Arkarian horn fowl was an avian animal native to the planet Arkaria. The horn fowls flocked together in the thousands, at times turning the whole northern sky (as visible from Arkaria Base) dark with their numbers. Their mating habits were of particular interest to ornithologists. During favorable months, their nesting grounds in the southern promontory could be visited from Arkaria Base on horseback via a network of trails .

When the crew of the USS Enterprise-D visited in 2369, the trails were muddy and cold. (TNG: "Starship Mine")
