The location of Ariannus in "The Explored Galaxy" star chart

Ariannus was an inhabited planet in the region of space governed by the Federation in the 23rd century.

Prior to stardate 5730, this world was established as a vital transfer point for the regular space commercial lanes. The population was counted to be one billion. The nearest starbase was Starbase 4.

In 2268, Ariannus was infected by a bacterial invasion that threatened to destroy all life on the planet. The crew of the USS Enterprise, working in tandem with the planet's ministry of health, conducted an orbital decontamination mission to save the planet's inhabitants. The location of Ariannus in the Milky Way Galaxy was depicted on a Federation star chart in 2293. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, production art)

On the "The Explored Galaxy" chart, the location of Ariannus was placed between the Tholian Assembly and Romulus. According to dialog in DS9: "Call to Arms", the two were Alpha Quadrant powers.
