The antimatter universe is the anti-matter opposite of the familiar "positive matter" universe, where black stars shine in a white void where time flows backwards. It is the home of anti-Lazarus, a man whose civilization created a negative magnetic corridor to connect the two universes. (TOS: "The Alternative Factor")

In the antimatter, or reverse universe entered by the USS Enterprise in 2270, the inhabitants of the planet Arret begin their life at an old age and slowly grow younger. Brain functions, language and operational controls work in reverse of what they do in the "positive matter universe."

While transporting Captain Robert April to his retirement ceremony on Babel, Kirk attempted to rescue an alien ship heading for the Beta Niobe supernova at Warp 36. While trying to rescue the ship, the Enterprise was dragged inside the nova and into a negative universe. (TAS: "The Counter-Clock Incident")

The novelization of "The Counter Clock Incident", written by Alan Dean Foster, showed that the negative universe was in fact, an alien fabrication and that the Enterprise had never really left the universe.
