The antimatter engine was a crucial component of 23rd century Federation starships that partially regulated the interaction of antimatter within the ship's matter-antimatter reaction assembly. The antimatter engine was the housing through which antimatter flowed after release from the antimatter containment pods before finally reaching antimatter injectors and entering the reaction assembly.
