Andromeda is an Earth constellation named for the princess Andromeda, a character in Greek mythology. The name translates to Guardian of the Men in Greek. The constellation is visible in the northern sky of Earth near the constellation Pegasus. It is most notable for containing the Andromeda Galaxy.
The brightest star in the constellation is α Andromedae, which is actually a binary star.
The most famous deep sky object in Andromeda is M31, the Andromeda Galaxy, one of the most distant objects visible to the naked eye, as seen from Earth. The Andromeda Galaxy appears as a bright star to the naked eye on Earth, brighter than α Andromedae. This makes it the brightest stellar object in the constellation. It is an enormous spiral galaxy much like the Milky Way.
