Ambergris was an intestinal concretion made by Earth sperm whales, once used to stabilize the scent of perfumes.

Dr. Leonard McCoy noted that the poisonous venom of the sur-snake, a sea-creature native to the planet Argo, was similar to the ambergris of Earth whales. (TAS: "The Ambergris Element")
