The Amazon is a river, a rainforest and the basin through which the Amazon River flows through in the South American continent of the planet Earth. This river is named for female warriors seen by European explorers, who were reminded by the legendary Amazons of ancient Greece.

In 2151, Ensign Hoshi Sato remembered that, while working as a teacher in a Brazilian university, she once accompanied two other teachers aboard a hydro-skimmer to a small tributary of the Amazon River. The teachers intended to see the wildlife there, which included sloths, pink dolphins and various species of snakes, including anacondas. However, Hoshi Sato also recalled that she had been scared of the snakes. (ENT: "Fight or Flight")

Ensign Travis Mayweather referenced the Amazon in a geography game with Captain Jonathan Archer.

Taken from a deleted scene from "Fight or Flight" that can be found on the ENT Season 1 DVD.

Later the same year, Ensign Sato compared the canopy above the surface of the planet Dakala to the Amazon's thick plant life. (ENT: "Rogue Planet")
