Alvin Dark was a famous 20th century American baseball player on the New York Giants.

In 2366, Doctor Paul Stubbs remembered a baseball game that Alvin Dark participated in with the words: "Lockman on first, Dark on second, Thomson at the plate, Branca on the mound." (TNG: "Evolution")

In real-life, Alvin Dark was not on base for the Shot Heard 'Round the World, the Giants' pennant-clinching game in 1951, as he had scored off a Lockman double the previous at-bat. The other Giants baserunner besides Lockman was Clint Hartung, not Dark. The correct order would have been: "Lockman on second, Hartung on third, Thomson at the plate, Branca on the mound." [1]
