Alpha III was the third planet in the Alpha system. This planet was famous for being the site where the Statutes of Alpha III were written. It was home to the well-known Tribunal of Alpha III, who wrote important laws including the Statutes. (TOS: "Court Martial")
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts, on the charts United Federation of Planets I and III, the Alpha system was located in the Alpha Quadrant. This system was a single star system. Primary was a Class G star with a magnitude of +5, which was the same brightness as Sol. Alpha III was listed as a member planet of the Federation in 2378.
