Alpha Carinae II was an inhabited planet. Classified as Class M, this was the homeworld for an intelligent species. This was the second planet in the Alpha Carinae star system.
The planet was a conventional M class world with an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere. On the planet's surface, there were two major landmasses and a number of islands. There were twenty-nine other planets that were biologically similar to Alpha Carinae II.
The geologist Carstairs once visited this planet while serving in the Merchant Marines on a geology survey for a mining company.
In 2268, the USS Enterprise surveyed this planet as a test of of the M-5 computer's capabilities. (TOS: "The Ultimate Computer")

In the star chart "The Explored Galaxy", the star Alpha Carinae was positioned between the Tholian Assembly and Romulus. Both were identified in DS9: "Call to Arms" as being located in the Alpha Quadrant. However, to date, there has been no direct connection between the star and the quadrant. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts (pg. 65, "United Federation of Planets I"), Alpha Carinae II (or Canopus II) was located in or near Federation space. In 2378, Alpha Carinae II was a Federation member.
