Algol is a star system which is also known as Beta Persei in an old classification system named Terran Bayer.
The Algol system is estimated 93 light years from the Sol system. It is the home to the Algolians, who were a member of the Federation by the 24th century.
StarTrek.com suggests that Algol is home to the Algolians; this was, however, never mentioned on screen.
