Alfre Woodard (born 8 November 1952; age 71) is a widely acclaimed actress who played Lily Sloane in Star Trek: First Contact.
One of her earliest films was the 1980 Robert Altman comedy HealtH, in which she co-starred with fellow Star Trek alumni Paul Dooley, Henry Gibson, and Robert Fortier. The following year, she co-starred with Paul Winfield, Bernie Casey, Robert Hooks, Janet MacLachlan, Bibi Besch, Davis Roberts in the made-for-television movie The Sophisticated Gents.
In 1984, Woodard received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in the drama Cross Creek. Fellow Trek movie actor Malcolm McDowell (Star Trek: Generations) also had a role in this film. That same year, Woodard received an Emmy Award for her role as "Doris Robson" in an episode of Hill Street Blues. The following year, she joined the cast of St. Elsewhere to play "Dr. Roxanne Turner", a role for which she would receive another Emmy nomination.
Her extensive film work since receiving her Oscar nomination includes Scrooged (co-starring John Glover), Miss Firecracker (with Brent Spiner), Passion Fish, Bopha! (co-starring Malcolm McDowell), How to Make an American Quilt (co-starring Jean Simmons and Gail Strickland), Primal Fear (with Terry O'Quinn and Tony Plana), Love & Basketball (with Gabrielle Union), and the science fiction film The Core (with Glenn Morshower and Matt Winston). She also lent her voice to the animated films Dinosaur and The Wild Thornberrys Movie, the latter of which also featured the voices of Brock Peters and Ethan Phillips.
Woodard has also been nominated for Golden Globes and NAACP Image Awards (the last for her First Contact role), and has won Emmys for appearances on L.A. Law, The Practice and the TV movie Miss Evers' Boys, directed by Joseph Sargent. She is currently co-starring in Desperate Housewives, with Teri Hatcher.
Alfre claims to be the Godmother of fellow Star Trek actor and First Contact director Jonathan Frakes. This came about following their long relationship together, during which Woodard told Frakes how important godmothers were in her life. He would later ask her, jokingly, if she would be his "godmommy" since he did not have one, and Woodard said yes.
