Al Smutko was a Human Starfleet officer in the mid-24th century.
In 2365 he held the rank of captain and was the commanding officer of the USS Excalibur. (TNG: "The Measure Of A Man")
Smutko was named for TNG construction coordinator Al Smutko.
This character was never mentioned in dialog; his name came from a Starship Deploy Status chart seen on Starbase 173.
