The African Confederation was a political entity on the continent of Africa on the planet Earth. Geordi La Forge was born here on February 16th, 2335. (TNG: "Cause and Effect")
Details of this Confederation are unknown, as is how it relates to the United States of Africa mentioned in the semi-official biographies of Uhura.
Uhura speaks of having lived in the African Confederation in the Star Trek newspaper comic strip.
The novel Losing the Peace by William Leisner establishes the African Confederation to include the present-day nation of Somalia, including the capital city of Mogadishu (now a thriving, peaceful metropolis), the home city of the family of Geordi La Forge.
