The Aeon was a Federation Template:ShipType timeship commissioned during the 29th century, piloted by Starfleet Captain Braxton. It was capable of traveling through time by generating temporal rifts.

When debris from a temporal explosion that devastated Earth's solar system in the 29th century revealed that the USS Voyager was involved, Braxton took the Aeon to 2373 to destroy Voyager before the disaster could occur. Voyager was able to defend itself and disable the Aeon, but this had the effect of destabilizing the still-open temporal rift which Braxton had used to travel through time. As both ships became caught in the rift's graviton matrix, they fell into the rift and arrived at the Aeon's point of origin: Earth, but at different points along the timeline (the Aeon in 1967, Voyager in 1996).

The Aeon crash-landed in the High Sierras, but not before Braxton managed to execute an emergency beam-out. Before Braxton could locate his ship, however, it was found and stolen by a Human named Henry Starling. Over the next 30 years, Starling would utilize his primitive understanding of the timeship's technology to introduce computer technology to the public, constructing a corporate empire and initiating the computer revolution of the 20th century.

In 1996, the crew of Voyager was able to locate Captain Braxton, who had been living as a vagrant ever since crashing. Braxton informed Captain Janeway of his deduction that, if Starling were to use the timeship to travel to the 29th century without properly recalibrating the ship's temporal matrix, then that could have been the cause of the explosion. The crew of Voyager was able to prevent this future by destroying the Aeon with a manually-launched photon torpedo just before Starling entered the temporal rift. Shortly afterwards, Voyager encountered another temporal rift, created by Captain Braxton, who had traveled in the Aeon from the now-restored future, where the explosion never occurred. Having detected Voyager's anomalous presence in the 20th century, Braxton had traveled back in time to escort Voyager back to their proper place and time. Some websites, including Startrek.com, have added "UTS" (United Time Ship) to the name, making it "UTS Aeon".
