A.F. were the initials of a Starfleet Academy acquaintance of Jean-Luc Picard.

Picard later attributed a failed semester of Organic Chemistry due to his involvement with A.F., whose initials he carved into Boothby's prized elm tree on the parade grounds. (TNG: "The Game")
