• Hikaru Sulu is promoted to captain, and given command of USS Excelsior, for a three-year mission charting gaseous anomalies in the Beta Quadrant. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
• Three Klingon battle cruisers, commanded by Kor, Koloth, and Kang, are dispatched to apprehend the Albino. The raid is successful in breaking up most of the Albino's power base, but they fail to capture the Albino himself. In revenge, the Albino infects each of the three captain's firstborn sons with a genetic virus that will slowly kill the children. (DS9: "Blood Oath")
• The Klingon battle cruiser IKS T'Ong is sent by the Klingon High Command on a high priority mission. For this mission, the crew is placed into cryogenic stasis. (TNG: "The Emissary")
